Castle at the confluence of the Sèvre and Maine rivers, an example of the Italianate style of the 19th century, known as Clissonais, which became a wine château

Historically, the Château du Coing takes its name from its location "at the corner" of two rivers, at the confluence of the Sèvre and the Maine. Its first written mention dates back to 1536 and already mentions the existence of vines in the vicinity. The courtyard of the outbuildings with its majestic dovecote is a fine example of the Italianate style of the 19th century, known as "Clissonais". Today, this estate is a wine château managed by Véronique Günther-Chéreau and her daughter Aurore, an oenologist. Passionate, they are among the rare women managers of the Nantes vineyard. Fruity and floral, the Muscadets Sèvre et Maine sur Lie produced at the estate are terroir wines with an ageing capacity of 15 to 20 years for the crus communaux and the vintage vintages Comte de Saint Hubert. The ideal place for a visit followed by a tasting in a prestigious setting.

Visite en famille. Excellente visite, très bien expliquée. Château qui nous plonge parfaitement dans le 18e siècle.

Château fort agréable avec en prime un magnifique temps ce qui nous a permis de bruncher a l'extérieur...

At the end of a loose gravel track through vines, we were made very welcome in our camping car and enjoyed Muscadet tasting in the chateau cellars. Kindly found space for us to park for the night on a grassy track amongst the vines, before collecting our purchases the next day. The chateau is also a France Passion site.
