CHAPELLE IMPÉRIALE
Imperial Chapel in Hispano-Moorish and Romano-Byzantine style, classified as a historic monument in 1981 and used as a place of worship
Architect Bernard Voinchet, working under the aegis of Bâtiments de France, is responsible for restoring the chapel's waterproofing, which had been damaged by sea spray and salinity, using the biomineralization technique, and for restoring the paintwork. Built in 1865 in a Hispano-Moorish and Romano-Bysantine style, it served as a place of worship for Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie. Dedicated to the Mexican black Virgin Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Chapelle Impériale de Biarritz was classified as a historic monument in 1981.
