Work has begun on developing the sensitive natural areas of the Lac Mouriscot and Ilbarritz site (110 hectares spread over the municipalities of Biarritz and Bidart), while at the same time opening up certain sectors for walking. Now a protected natural area, it is partially classified as "Natura 2000". No new construction is permitted. The area already offers wild spaces, home to several animal species, a favorable environment for fish, and over 70 species of birds.
