CHAPELLE DE LA MADELEINE
Chapelle de la Madeleine in Bidart, with an orientation table with a view over the ocean and the cliffs
The tradition of whale hunting and, unfortunately, the loss of men that it caused, explain the numerous chapels built in the parish. This one, well signposted, at the end of a lovely cornice path, seems to scan the horizon: the ocean as far as the eye can see and the three crowns of Guipuzcoa. It would have been rebuilt in 1820, after a devastating hurricane. Others claim that the sailors found drowned in the rocks below are buried around it. From the orientation table, you have a view of the ocean and the cliffs.
