THE FOUQUET DE LA VARENNE DWELLING
Go there and contact
Built from 1608, this cottage has never been completed but remains a very good example of the provincial architecture under Louis XIII. Its façade rises on three levels, its skylights are crowned with triangular pediments, its fenêtres windows, its dome flared in slate and its stands are remarkable. This body of accommodation was built for William Fouquet de la Varenne, friend and minister of Henri IV, who remained in the history of France for being the first Chief superintendent of posts. Entirely restored, its home houses the Centre for Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage, which presents the wealth of mayennais heritage to the public. Exhibitions, concerts, animated tours, outdoor cinema, children's workshops are scheduled for the summer. Don't forgive your pleasure.
