Visit the Arche refuge, a veritable sanctuary where all the animals are rescued in Château-Gontier.
For almost 50 years, the Refuge de l'Arche, located in Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne (53), has had as its primary mission the rescue and care of exotic wild animals damaged by life or victims of human stupidity. It takes in, cares for and looks after around a thousand animals that have been seized by the authorities or abandoned. They come from laboratories, circuses, zoos or private individuals. Abused, traumatized, illegally trafficked, each animal has its own story to tell. During your visit, you'll be able to discover these special destinies.
A veritable sanctuary, all the animals are rescued. Too impregnated by man and unable to be released, they all begin their remaining lives here. Felines, bears, monkeys, birds and reptiles will end their days as peacefully as possible. On a welcoming, shaded 23-hectare site, everything is designed to ensure the well-being of animals and visitors alike. Throughout the year, our mediators will be happy to meet you along the tour route to discuss a range of animal-related topics. By visiting the Refuge de l'Arche, you support its work and contribute to the purchase of care and food for its residents. Refuge de l'Arche is managed by the Le CEPAN association, which has been recognized as a public utility since 2014. It also manages the Centre de Sauvegarde de la Faune Locale Sauvage "Valentine & Jacques Perrin".
