CONCOURS DU MEILLEUR GÂTEAU BASQUE

Every year, the town of Cambo-les-Bains, in partnership with the "Eguzkia" Association, organises the Best Basque Cake Competition, open, in a first section, to young professionals under 20 years old and, in a second section, to all amateurs, and this since 2003! The aim of this competition, as its name suggests, is to maintain and promote the traditions of the Basque Country, through one of the jewels of its culinary cultural heritage: the Basque cake. This event attracts a very large number of tourists from the region and far beyond!

Registration : at the Cambo Tourist Office at the above address no later than noon on the day before the competition. The Young Professionals Competition will be open to the first 20 registered, the Amateur Competition to the first 45. The rules of the competition can be downloaded from the above-mentioned website, under the heading "competition".

Terms and conditions of participation: to participate in this contest, it is mandatory :

- after registration, to make a Basque cake, with cream only (desired diameter: 20-22 cm, placed on a rigid support without a dish or mould). Warning: only the cake is examined. Supports or decorative elements other than the cake itself are not noted.

- to deposit it at the Hôtel du Trinquet - Rue du trinquet - 64250 Cambo-les-Bains, on the day of the competition (2018 edition, 7 October) from 8.30 am to 9 am, deadline. Only one cake per participant will be admitted.

Competitions and how they will take place :

- Jury deliberations from 9:30 to 12:00. The jury is composed of various regional culinary personalities. It will score according to 4 criteria: general visual aspect, smell, taste and texture.

- Announcement of the winners and prize-giving ceremony from 12.30 pm. For the amateur competition, 3 winners will be designated.

Prizes : The prizes for the amateur competition are :

^1st prize: Eguzkia Gold Trophy and an endowment of 150 €

^2nd prize: City Trophy and an endowment of 75 €

^3rd prize: Trophy from the Tourist Office and an endowment of 75 €

Prizes: theprizes for the young professionals under 20 years old competition are :

^1st prize: trophy from the Chambre des Métiers et de l'Artisanat des Pyrénées-Atlantiques and an endowment of 100 €.

^2nd prize: trophy from the Confrérie du Gâteau basque (Basque Cake Brotherhood) and an endowment of 75 €.
