First built in the 11th century, the cathedral was regularly added to and modified until the 19th century. Apart from its great organs and its unmistakable altarpiece, a perfect example of 17th-century Laval art, there are two admirable paintings (a 16th-century decollation of St. John the Baptist and an Adoration of the Magi) as well as six tapestries, dating from the second half of the 17th century, covering the walls of the nave.
