Old Laval castle with a low chapel and a view of the city from the top

Built by the Guy de Laval who lived there until 1624, the Vieux-Château is an emblematic building of the city and you can't miss it. It is perched on a peak overlooking the river Mayenne. This jewel houses the lower chapel built at the end of the 11th century by Guy II in the continuity of the primitive building, and the keep built at the end of the 12th century to shelter the villagers in case of assault. At the top, you will have a breathtaking view of the city. Not to be missed during your visit to Laval.

Site emblématique de Laval, figurant sur toutes les brochures avec son château si typique au dessus de la Mayenne. Ne pas manquer de le visiter ( la visite guidée à 4 euros est le seul moyen d'avoir accès à la tour et sa remarquable charpente). Déjà dans le château vous avez accès librement et gratuitement au musée MANAS (musée d'art naïf et d'arts singuliers). La visite guidée vous emmènera sur les 3 niveaux de la tour et surtout dans la charpente remarquable de l'édifice, le guide vous expliquera depuis la naissance du château, de l'agrandissement de l'ouvrage ainsi que l'histoire des lieux. Très bon moment bien captivant et intéressant. L'extérieur est lui aussi à voir et sa partie "renaissance" tout aussi beau.
