If the war of 70 which pitted the Second Empire of Napoleon III to Bismarck's Prussia disappeared from the collective memory, it remains present in Laval. Indeed, every year, many veterans and members of patriotic associations come to commemorate the last battle of the Second Army of La Loire, which took place at the exit of the city in the direction of Bonchamp, at the place Saint-Melaine, on 18 January 1871. This battle was won for the French troops (bravo to the general of Underwent and to Colonel Thierry!). In tribute to the soldiers dead for the homeland (28 French against a hundred Dukes), French Remembrance erected a monument in 1892 at the corner of Le Mans and Saint-Melaine Street.

Ne vaut pas le détour
L 'histoire est intéressante et a marqué la région. Mais la stèle ne présente aucun intérêt sauf si l' on est un pèlerin de la guerre de70
