CLAIRMONT ABBEY
The Cistercian Abbey of Clairmont, founded in the middle of the th century by Bernard de Clairvaux, is located in a place removed from the forest, following Cistercian habits. From its foundation, it retained the building of the convers and the abbey church. This is a huge one with a nave of 65 m long, the transepts making 40 m. Side chapels are adorned with wall paintings of the th century, while the church occupies the north side of a large quadrilateral, according to the usual plan. The dormitories, the chapter room, the sacristies (the th and th centuries) are in the east, in communication with the church transept. Finally the building of the convers brothers, with its cellar and dining; close the fourth side of the inner courtyard to the west. The place breathes tranquillity, only disturbed by the restoration work.
