Imposing Romanesque building from the 12th century, whose interior alternates between Romanesque and Gothic styles in Saint-Denis-d'Anjou
This imposing 12th century Romanesque building was transformed in the 15th and 16th centuries. The interior thus sees an alternation between Romanesque and Gothic styles. The mural paintings, created around 1570, are the masterpiece of the church and are worth a visit on their own. They depict episodes from the lives of the saints, illustrating the "Golden Legend" by Jacques de Voragine, a 13th century work that recounted the lives and martyrdom of 180 saints. Choir, stalls, altarpiece and stained glass windows are also classified.
