THE CASTLE AND THE CHAPEL OF SAINT LYPHARD
The château and chapel of Saint-Lyphard, remnants of the medieval fortress, now an exhibition space for artists
The remains of the medieval fortress are limited to a few towers and ramparts, but are worth a detour, especially as the chapel, which has been restored, is an exhibition space. It dates from the 12th century and was built by the Bernard family, lords of the time (and who gave their name to the town). The chapel was classified as a Historic Monument in 1981. In general, during exhibitions (which welcome regional artists), the chapel is open every day from 10am to 12.30pm and from 3pm to 7pm. You may even be able to see the artists working there, which is usually quite rare.
