THE FORMER HALLES DENIS BÉALET
One of the jewels of the old centre of La Ferté-Bernard. Dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, and commissioned by the Dukes of Guise, these covered market halls are remarkable for their imposing wooden frame, covered with tiles and the height of their facade. These former canvas and grain halls are structured by 14 octagonal wooden pillars, 12 m high and 1.63 m in circumference, as a support. A statue of Saint-Louis, patron saint of merchants, 20 m high, adorns the façade. Restored from 2006 to 2008, these halls were the centre of commerce and the symbol of the city's rich activity. Today, they house receptions and exhibitions.
