As at every beginning of autumn in Le Mans, for 11 years now, the Cité Plantagenêt welcomes all lovers of gardens, heritage and history. Every year, this event dedicated to the Art of the Garden and Art in the Garden welcomes thousands of visitors who come from far and wide to discover what is hidden behind the doors of the mansions and other bourgeois (but also more modest) residences of the historic city of Le Mans: the gardens and courtyards of the Cité Plantagenêt.
For 2 days (from 29 to 30 September 2018), some 130 exhibitors (horticulturists, nursery gardeners, florists, antique dealers, but also publishers, puppeteer-musicians, visual artists, architects, decorators, etc.) will take over the Cité Plantagenêt to offer visitors a unique bucolic, botanical and sensory journey through 23 secret gardens.
An amazing fairy tale punctuated by concerts, exhibitions, theatre, etc. but also by conferences, activities and thematic workshops (for young and old), an organic market, a plant barter, a botanical treasure hunt for the youngest, etc.., all this under the benevolent gaze of Claire GIBAULT, conductor of the Paris Mozart Orchestra and Alain BARATON, chief gardener of the Versailles estate and the national estate of Trianon, both godfathers of this 11th edition.
Thanks to the talent of the florists and landscapers who will invest courtyards, gardens, enclosed areas but also alleys, doors, stairs, passages, etc.., the heritage setting of the Cité Plantagenêt will then be sublimated, as if reinvented for the pleasure of as many people as possible with, as a highlight: the highlighting of the astonishing bouteroues (or wheel chasers), very numerous in the historic heart of Le Mans, entrusted to the talents of the florist craftsmen who will then have the mission of highlighting this mineral treasure which many of us pass by, surprised and questioning, without knowing its usefulness.
A most original opportunity to discover the Cité Plantagenêt (and its Gallo-Roman wall, candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status - one of the oldest and best preserved in the world -) from a different angle, between plant and mineral!
Between Courtyards & Gardens. 11th edition
