SUNDAYS AT THE NEWSSTAND

It's not Peynet's Kiosque, but it looks like it, vintage as can be, and its original vocation is revived on those Sundays.
It's in the heart of Le Mans' Jardin des Plantes et d'Horticulture that music takes up its summer quarters. For the 9th year running, this recently rebuilt, 19th-century-style bandstand is hosting a series of concerts, usually scheduled for mid-March. The initiative comes from the city's Development and Cultural Actions department, which mainly promotes amateur or semi-professional groups. Orchestras, choirs, string quartets, musical associations or local music schools... Various groups perform outdoors every Sunday afternoon. A succession of eclectic genres to suit all tastes. If you're feeling like a music lover, don't hesitate to borrow a chair and take a seat in front of the bandstand as you stroll along. Festivities start at around 4.30pm and usually finish by 6pm.
