NOTRE-DAME-DE-LA-COUTURE CHURCH
Former Benedictine abbey church, featuring a replica of the Virgin and Child in the nave, a stained-glass window dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a stained-glass window dedicated to the Virgin Mary
Located near the Sarthe Prefecture (which now occupies the former monastery), the building was built from the 11th to 14th centuries. It is an old abbey church of Benedictines. In the nave, we can see a replica of the Virgin and Child, made by Germain Pilon, a 16th century sculptor. In addition, there is a stained glass window dedicated to the Virgin Mary dating from the 19th century, which is one of the first stained glass windows designed in medieval style, known as archaeological stained glass. Why Couture? This comes from the Latin cultura, which refers to a place where culture was found.
