This fountain, located below the Old Town, dates back to the centuries
Below the Old Town is the Fontaine Saint-Julien. Legend has it that Saint Julien, the first bishop of Le Mans, was sent on a mission by Saint Peter himself. When he saw the town's inhabitants without water, he planted the end of his staff in the ground and, praying to God, commanded a fountain of living water to rise from the spot. This is how the miraculous spring of Saint-Julien came into being. The fountain dates back to the 4th-5th centuries.
