GREEN MUSEUM, NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Museum in Le Mans, with a few minerals, and one of the oldest collections in France, with specimens
At the entrance to the museum, a slice of the Boppe oak, the tercentenary jewel of the Forêt de Bercé, and a few minerals are on display. The Musée Vert boasts one of the oldest collections in France, with almost 200,000 specimens, only a fraction of which are on public display. Geology, zoology and botany are sure to delight young and old alike. Upstairs, the first room is devoted to animals in their environment, with a series of display cases showing them in thickets, hedgerows and fields; the second room (Jurassic Sarthe) is devoted to minerals from the Precambrian to the Primary eras... Doesn't that sound familiar? Then you should know that these fossils are dated from 620 to 245 million years BC. Putting things into perspective! There's no shortage of curiosities. In any case, it's the ideal place for schoolchildren. From first cycle to secondary school, there are various workshops: the life of a flower, snails, the flora of the banks of the Huisne, etc.
