PLANK ISLAND
Urban park with amphitheater, playground, linking the two banks of the Sarthe, near the center and the Sud Mans train station.
Located close to the city center and South Station, this small urban park is the city's most recent, having only been built in 2008. It owes its name to the fact that it links the two banks of the Sarthe, between the two arms of this river. An amphitheatre and play area have been laid out. A vast meadow below serves as a spillway in the event of flooding. The construction project would not have been possible without the determination of the members of the Île aux Planches association. The land belonged to EDF, and they wanted to sell it to developers for a real estate project (two columns at the entrance to the park refer to EDF and GDF).
