CONFRÉRIE DES CHEVALIERS DES RILLETTES SARTHOISES
The pork rillets that remained very associated with Maine and Touraine conquered the market thanks to the arrival of the railway in Sarthe in mid-nineteenth century. In the 1900 s, Albert Lussier, a sarthois charterer, benefited from the stops of the Paris-Brest train, which made the full water in Connerré, to offer its rillings to mechanics and then to passengers. A great success for this easy-to-spread product, adapted to travel. Then a sarthoise charcuterie company had the idea of conditioning rillings in parrefined pots to better transport them. The formula remains the same! The Brotherhood was created in Mamers in 1968 at the initiative of Pierre Leplumey, a regional journalist. Since 2011, Jean-Michel Étienne is the Grand Maistre, assisted by 20 high dignitaries. The Mamers rillette contest is held every year on Saturday, February 1 st.
