RANDONNÉES EN FORÊT DE SILLÉ

On the GR 36, Mont-Saint-Jean is a base camp for many hikes. For example, that of the Circuit of Cordé (10 km/2:30) that leads you to the forest of Sillé by borrowing a railway that was never used following the shutdown of the blast furnaces in 1914 and the discovery of the black coal that began the development of the mining steel industry. You walk in an environment of rock, water and greenery, enjoying a majestic subwood between bruises and blueberries and cross the sites of the Cerf and Rochebrune Saut, points of view offering an exceptional panorama on Sillé's state forest and the surrounding boiler. The site of the Saut du Cerf or Saut du Serf takes its name from a legend to several interpretations. An unfortunate serf (peasant) pursued by the shouting pack of a lord, invoked Notre-Dame and crossed a prodigious leap of the two slopes, thus escaping a certain death. It could also be a deer, not a serf. A small oratory in the bruises pays tribute to him. Rochebrune, for his part, takes his name from the rocky bar there. The nature of the rock differs between Rochebrune (armorican sandstone) and the Cerf Saut (sandstone of Sainte-Suzanne). These two sites are popular with hikers and climbers.
