Memorial retracing the history of the crew of an American B17 bomber, which fell in the forest on March 27, 1944, killing 5 people
On the edge of the forest, a memorial tells the story of the crew of an American B17 bomber, which fell in the forest on 27 March 1944, killing 5 people. Named Big Red, it belonged to the 388th bomb group and was going to bomb targets located in the Bordeaux area. In a burning plane in distress, the crewmen jumped by parachute or into the void. The Germans swept the area. Some airmen were taken prisoner, others recovered by the Resistance... In 1995 the Path of Remembrance was inaugurated, erected on the site of the bomber's fall.
