LE PORT DE MORICQ
The port of Moricq, which in the century was known as the trading and fishing port of Grand Jonchet in Angles.
Did you know that Angles still had a flourishing port until 1906, when it ceased its activity? Today it is overgrown with mud, but in the 15th century it was better known as the trading and fishing port of "Grand Jonchet". The port then developed its trade around grain and wood towards La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Brittany... In 1793, during the Revolution, it supplied the port of Les Sables-d'Olonne, thus allowing it to resist the siege of the "insurgents". In 1844, it was the first exporter of grain on the Atlantic coast.
