THE GRANT
L'Octroi, located in the heart of the Moricq marshes, was responsible for collecting taxes in Angles.
The octroi is in the heart of the Moricq marsh. It is a small pavilion under the arch of which flows the canal des Bourrasses from which it draws all its charm. Its role consisted in collecting the indirect taxes taken for the benefit of the communes on the goods intended for the local consumption, taxes which had taken the name of octroi. The Pavilion allowed the control and collection of taxes on transit goods. Previously instituted by the Ancien Régime and collected for the benefit of the Royal Treasury, this tax was abolished during the Revolution.
