Several paths lead up to the castle, at the top of the Burckberg hill, 565 meters above sea level. It's a pleasant walk to the largest castle in Alsace, built in the 11th century by the Counts of Eguisheim on an ancient Roman site to protect Altorf Abbey. Today overgrown with vegetation, the ruins nevertheless hold many surprises in store for visitors, and the remains are still very much standing. The Saint-Valentin chapel, originally Romanesque but remodeled in the 19th century, will catch your eye.
