THE BARBARY PINE FOREST
Pine forest composed mainly of maritime pines, but also arbutus, holm oak and cypress at Barbâtre
Covering 145 hectares, it's the largest forest on the island of Noirmoutier. It begins as soon as you cross the bridge, facing the ocean. Planted with tall maritime pines, it runs alongside the beach. Composed mainly of maritime pines, but also arbutus, holm oak and cypress. Just a stone's throw from the Boucholeurs beach, the Frandière forest plays a central role in the ecosystem: the last rampart facing the ocean, after the beach and the dune belt. With its long stretches, often overlooking the sea, it makes a wonderful hiking area.
