This 1580 building, with its stonework and exposed beams, period fireplace and crackling fire, is home to a uniquely charming restaurant, where Claudie and Laurent offer a warm welcome. Specialties include medieval potences and warm stonework; and star dishes: homemade foie gras, roast camembert, œuf cocotte, salmon gravlax, Mac Maraîchin with duck aiguillettes, beef tartar, duck filet, calf's head, shrimp and scallop sauté, gourmet salads and moules-frites in summer. Save room for profiteroles with macaroons.

We were travelling through the Vendée region after purchasing seafood for the festivities. We then were looking for a decent restaurant to have lunch when we came across The Louis XIII in Shallans. Our first impression was an extremely warm welcoming as we were shown to our table.
We all ordered the "Earth and Sea salad", we were not disappointed and even pleasantly surprised.
The salad was copious, delicious and even adventurous as a fig ice-cream was served with it which was the perfect compliment to the smoked fillet of beef, duck and king prawns butterflies. Around £12.50 for a main course. Very friendly, helpfull staff and owner making you feel instantly at home.
We all loved it and will definitely return when we're visiting the region for its seafood.

Nous parcourions la Vendée après avoir acheté des fruits de mer pour les festivités. Nous cherchions alors un restaurant correct pour déjeuner lorsque nous sommes tombés sur Le Louis XIII à Shallans. Notre première impression a été un accueil extrêmement chaleureux alors qu'on nous a montré notre table. Nous avons tous commandé la « Salade Terre et Mer » , nous n'avons pas été déçus et même agréablement surpris. La salade était copieuse, délicieuse et même aventureuse puisqu'elle était accompagnée d'une glace aux figues qui accompagnait parfaitement le filet de bœuf fumé, le canard et les gambas papillons. Environ 12,50 £ pour un plat principal. Le personnel et le propriétaire sont très sympathiques et serviables qui vous font sentir immédiatement comme si vous étiez chez vous. Nous avons tous adoré et nous reviendrons certainement lors de notre visite dans la région pour ses fruits de mer.
