Discover the abbey church, the last vestige of a Templar commandery in Challans.
This sanctuary is the only remaining vestige of a Templar commandery founded in 1130 by Hugues de Payens, Grand Master of the order, thanks to the liberalities of the Lords of the Garnache. Only the church - now an abbey - from the 12th century and rebuilt in the 14th century remains, the rest of the commandery having been burnt down in the 14th century by the Huguenots. The complex suffered another fatal blow during the wars of the Vendée. Coudrie became a parish then a commune and was attached to Challans by order of Charles X in 1827. Listed as a Historic Monument.
