FAYMOREAU MINING CENTER
Faymoreau mining center offering 7 themed stops to discover the world of mining on a tour route
More than sixty years after the closure of the region's smallest coal mine, take a surprising trip back in time and follow in the footsteps of the miners who came to work in the Faymoreau coalfield in 1827 and spent 130 years extracting coal, the black gold of the time. Discover how these men, from near and far, punctuated the life of the little working-class town until the last shaft closed in 1958... In the museum, from the room of the hanged men to the "bottom" of the mine and then to the "day", relive the Faymoreau mining adventure and the great history of coal from its origins to the present day. An astonishing journey through the coal country of Vendée and Deux-Sèvres! The tour features 7 themed stops, including the saga of the Vendée and Deux-Sèvres coal industry, as well as the miner's journey: from the hanging room to the ventilation shaft, via the lamproom and the mine, you become a miner, exploring his journey, his equipment and his working conditions deep underground. The men at work, coal outlets and geology are just some of the topics covered. This year, take a stroll through the Centre Minier's photographic collections with the new "Regards sur la mine" exhibition. "Vis ta Mine": activities for 3/12 year-olds every day the Centre is open. During the school vacations, activities are organized for young people and their families.
