FROMENTINE'S OYSTER HOUSE
Restaurant offering seafood platters and fish tanks with drive-through service, as well as oyster tours
La Barre-de-Monts is a town in the Vendée region known for its seafood restaurant, Huîtres David LECOSSOIS. The restaurant offers on-site dining and a drive-through service, but does not deliver. The history of L'Huîtrière de Vendée goes back to the 50s, when Roger MARTINEAU, originally from Charente-Maritime, arrived in the Vendée and built the present "cabin". His son, Patrick MARTINEAU, took over the business and developed the sale of seafood platters and fish tanks. In 1998, David LECOSSOIS took over the business and opened it up to tourism. Since then, sales of seafood platters and oyster tours have been developed in partnership with tourist offices. L'Huîtrière de Vendée is also known for its fish shops in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez and Saint-Jean-de-Monts. They are the last producers to be able to claim the "Huîtres de Fromentine" appellation, as they are the only ones with oyster beds in Fromentine.
