SAFARI STAGE ASTRO DE LA PISTE AUX ÉTOILES - MELTING POT SAFARIS
In recent years, the Kenyan company Melting Pot Safaris, based in Nairobi, has teamed up with a renowned French amateur astronomer, Olivier Sauzereau, to set up and organize astronomy internships in Kenya. The aim of these courses is to combine total immersion in nature, safaris and discovery of the southern sky under a celestial vault devoid of any light pollution, and therefore of high quality. And it is a success.... The programs are very attractive, with an installation at Tumbili Cliff Lodge near Lake Baringo, about 200 km north of the country's capital, bird walks, boat safaris, a visit to the Rothschild Giraffe Sanctuary, then a visit to the famous Masai-Mara National Reserve (5 nights on site in a converted camp), animal safaris.... and of course observation of the night sky, especially behind a high-performance telescope 355 mm in diameter installed for the occasion at the Nyota observatory. In addition to the sky itself, which is particularly spectacular to discover under these low and atypical latitudes - very close to the equator, so with a masterful view of the two celestial hemispheres - it is indeed the nocturnal atmosphere that prevails in this kind of place that makes the difference, where nature in all its forms is omnipresent. Not surprisingly, the prices are not accessible to all wallets but what a joy on the spot: the very type of trip you make once in a lifetime to be able to fill up with memories!
