ST. LOUIS CHURCH
Church consecrated in 1830 under the name of Saint-Louis, a historical monument designed by the engineer Vallot in La Roche-sur-Yon
The largest religious building in the Vendée, the church, begun in 1809 and consecrated in 1830 under the name of Saint-Louis, marks the Place Napoléon by its monumental character. Listed as a historical monument, it was designed by the engineer Vallot on the plan of an ancient basilica. Remarkable by the size of its interior: a powerful continuous entablature resting on two lines of columns with Corinthian capitals, a beautiful wooden vault made of caissons framing rosettes painted in grisaille. To see, the Virgin and Child in polychrome wood of the 14th century.
