THE LOVE-OBSERVATION BAY
The site is a former oyster farm, where you can observe marsh birds and fishing boats...
The site of the Rade d'Amour is located at the end of the Pointe d'Arçay, in the commune of La Faute-sur-Mer, on the right bank of the Lay estuary. The Rade d'Amour is the name given to a former oyster farm. Acquired by the Conservatoire du littoral, the objective of this "renaturalised" site is to maintain and even improve biodiversity. The Conservatoire and the Rade d'Amour observatory present natural areas as well as mussel and oyster farming. The discovery trail of the Rade d'Amour takes you through the oyster beds, between sea and river, to discover the activity that has forged the reputation of this place. From the observation platform, you can admire the flight of birds in the marsh, the fishermen's boats on the Lay estuary or the pine forest. Every summer, the commune of La Faute-sur-Mer offers free visits supervised by a nature guide. These free two-hour outings must be booked in advance at the Sud Vendée Littoral tourist office. The observatory and the trail are accessible all year round. Among the observations you can make of the fauna and flora of this area: white stilt, kingfisher, osprey, tern for the birds, French carnation and sea lavender for the plants. As far as fish and shellfish are concerned, you will be able to see: sea bass, mullet, eel, sandeel, pink shrimp and green crab.
