CHURCH OF ST. GORGES AND THE TRINITY
Molsheim's first parish church, featuring modern architecture and the only keyboard organ in Alsace
The first parish church in Molsheim (with the exception of the famous Dompeter) was built in 1530 and dedicated to Saint George, it was located in Place du Marché. It housed an organ before 1615 and was demolished during the Revolution. The Jesuit church in question dates from 1615-1617. Built within the college by Christophe Warmser, it became a parish church in 1791, dedicated to both St. George and the Trinity. It is a remarkable place, to visit absolutely. The stained glass windows of the choir have recently been restored. Combining Gothic style and modern architecture, it is 61.50 metres long and 21.50 metres wide. Built by the famous Strasbourg organ builder Jean-André Silbermann, its organ is the only one in Alsace to be equipped with a full four-octave Echo keyboard. Concerts are organised throughout the year.
