Gate of Secrets, the last vestige of the fortifications erected by the city's magistrates in the 14th century
This door marks the entrance to the old city centre. It is the last vestige of the fortifications erected by the city's magistrates in the 14th century. Its upper part was damaged in 1783 by a fire. It is equipped with a drawbridge and a harrow whose location can still be seen. The Porte des Forgerons houses two dungeons and is equipped with a bell of 40 quintals melted in 1412. This one comes from the old Saint-Georges church, formerly located on the Place du Marché and replaced by the Jesuit church (now Saint-Georges parish).
