THE MILL ELECTED
The mill at Elise located at Poiré-sur-Vie, one of the last in activity, built in glued laminated pine cryptogilé.
The construction of the mill dates back to 1867 and forced the diversion of the river Ruth. In a green setting, the Moulin à Élise is a water mill driven by a waterwheel whose originality is to be built in glued laminated pine, whose realization is the responsibility of the Compagnons du Tour de France. This wheel, unique in Europe, with a diameter of 5.20 m is equipped with 40 curved blades. All the parts that make it up have been made by companies in the Poiré region. It is a "breast" wheel, i.e. the water reaches it halfway up. The water trapped between the blades and the 80 cm wide granite courier drives the wheel by gravity at a constant speed of 8 revolutions per minute. The Moulin à Élise is today one of the last water mills in operation. On the first floor, an animated model explains how it works. The visit is commented. After the visit, go from the raw material, the flour, to the finished product, the pancakes and crêpes that you can taste at the Crêperie du Moulin located just next door. On this site of the Moulin à Élise are organized, by the municipality, summer activities at the green theatre or in the meadow (Fireworks, Open-air Cinema, Giant Picnic, ...). It is also the starting point of the "sentier des Moulins". Outdoor facilities: children's games, petanque ground, fitness trail, orienteering, picnic areas and a 13,170m2 lake with a pontoon accessible to the disabled.
