Created as a tribute to Georges Simenon, the Belgian writer and novelist, father of Inspector Maigret, whose home town was in the 1940s. The Simenon festival offers activities in different areas: theatre, concerts, readings, exhibitions, film screenings adapted from Simenon's work, and talks at the Palais. Conferences led by literary authors, film directors who have adapted Simenon's work, actors from the films... The Simenon Festival is also the literary prize of Sables-d'Olonne, which has acquired a great notoriety.
