Le Remblai, a series of promenades built to protect the town from storms in Les Sables-d'Olonne.

The Embankment is a succession of promenades originally built to protect the city from storms. François 1st had it built in 1541, after the hurricane that ravaged the city in 1525. It was reinforced in 1751 and took on its present dimension after 1833, gradually becoming the promenade of the seafront. At the end of the 19th century, some architects gave free rein to their imagination with the creation of villas typical of seaside architecture. The inauguration of the promenade du Remblai took place on 6 August 1950. It was completely redeveloped between 2008 and 2013.
