L'Île d'Olonne is an old village of salt marshes. The marshes are part of the landscape. The Community of communes of Auzance and Vertonne has bought and restored two marshes to rent them today to young salt marshes: the Rivolia marsh and the Avocette marsh. The marshes are freely accessible via marked hiking and biking trails, but from June to September, during the harvest period, the salt producers offer guided tours of the Salorge de la Vertonne.
