A forest massif whose wood is highly sought after for cabinet making, parquet flooring and stave wood in Mervent
With a surface area of 5,000 hectares, half of the forest is made up of private woodland, the other 2,500 hectares, which came from the lordships of Mervent and Vouvant, were incorporated into the royal domain in 1964 and then into the national domain after the revolution. The sessile oak finds here ideal conditions to develop and give magnificent trees reaching 35 m high at 200 years. Its wood is much sought after for cabinet making, parquet flooring and staves (parts used to make barrels). Thanks to its hilly relief it offers magnificent panoramas.
