STONE EATING MUSEUM
Museum revealing minerals in a playful, educational and artistic way
Installed in the old school of Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, this museum reveals the minerals under a ludic, educational and artistic angle. The Mange Cailloux museum aims to make mineralogy accessible to all through an educational and fun museum and an annual stone festival held on the first weekend of June, with, on the program, stone-cutting, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, stained glass, and also a workshop gold and gemstone finder. Founded in 2015 by a geologist prospector, Thierry Charrier, this site offers an attractive museography for children and adults alike, whether you are a novice or a specialist with a passion for minerals. You will learn how to distinguish them. What are the identification criteria? Where do their names come from? What are their properties? How do you read a chemical formula? All these answers will be given while you are having fun. The originality of the presentations invites curiosity and knowledge. The gallery has one of the world's largest collections of "figurative stones" on public display. Among the most surprising specimens, come and discover "the koala", "the gorilla", "the fantastic ride", "the fried egg", "the war of the worlds", "the parrot", etc. In addition to the museum, there is a shop selling minerals that you won't find anywhere else at rock-bottom prices, and if you can't come to the museum, there are online sales.
