The frontispiece, "Église réformée de France", reminds us of the existence of a Protestant community
The frontispiece, "Église réformée de France" (Reformed Church of France), recalls the existence of a Protestant community, heir to the commitment of the lords of Parc Soubise in the Reformation, in the 16th century, taking a part of the Mouchampais with them. In 1628, a first temple was built in the village. Destroyed by virtue of a decree issued by the king in 1683 at the request of the bishop of Luçon, it was not rebuilt until 1833. Since that date, worship is regularly celebrated by a pastor living in the town. Services are still held there today.
