In a late Romanesque style, it was built around 1170 at the location of a older church. It is like three naves with flat bedside. Formerly dedicated to Saint Michel, the church was consecrated to Santiago in 1451 - remember that we are on one of the paths leading to Santiago de Compostela. By the year 1000, there were two monasteries nearby. One will disappear in the late th century, the other will remain until the th century. The church might contain the tomb of Raoul III of Mauléon, dead around 1200, fief, sometimes in the service of the King of France and the King of England - Richard Lion's Heart. In 1305, just before being elected Pope under the name of Clément V, Bertrand de Goth, Archbishop of Bordeaux, sermons in the church. In 1445 Pope Eugene IV brought together the priory of Moutiers in Luzon. The building will suffer many devastation in the th and th centuries. In October 1797, we will celebrate a funeral ceremony in memory of General Hoche, a peacemaker of the Vendée.
