JACOBSEN HOTEL, MARITIME HERITAGE CENTRE
A major hotel, with neoclassical decor, in the memory of the island of Noirmoutier, home to the Centre des Patrimoines Maritimes
Hotel Jacobsen is a major historical site in the memory of the island of Noirmoutier. It is located in the heart of the town of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, between the Place d'Armes, the port and the tourist office, with whom it shares the courtyard. This is where the entrance to the museum is located. This former shipowners' residence was built from 1760 and enlarged during the Empire and expanded around 1802. It is listed as a historical monument for its neoclassical decorations, its wood panelling, its rooms decorated with 18th century wallpaper, restored and refurnished. In addition to its remarkable architecture, it symbolizes the historical heritage of the island through the history of its builders, the Jacobsen family, shipowners and merchants, creators of the polders of Mullembourg, La Tresson, La Nouvelle Brille, the Jacobsen pier, the quays of the port and the defence against the sea at the Pointe du Devin. Since 2019, it has been home to the Maritime Heritage Centre. Browse the 10 rooms. Thanks to new technologies, it is maritime heritage in its various forms that is offered to you: an animated map of the island's formation, interview screens on the polders, the passage of the Gois, defence against the sea, a room for decorative arts (harbour furniture, Chinese porcelain...), another on navigation and trade, not forgetting the seaside phenomenon. A Museum Pass is offered to visit the Château-Musée and the Jacobsen Hotel at a reduced price.
