BIG EARTH FIRE
One of the last large lights built in France on the tip of the Grand Fort, which became the main lighthouse in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez
Erected in 1972 by the engineer Bounolleau, it is one of the last large lights built in France on the tip of the Grand Fort, which became the main lighthouse. At 25 m above sea level, it measures 17 m, with a range of 33.3 km for the white sector and 25.9 km for the red. There is no switching on and off of the lamp, but the brightness is produced by the passage of rotating beams. The optic is composed of panels forming as many beams as desired. The whole unit pivots on a mercury tank at the desired speed (1 to 2 revolutions/min.).
