THE DEVIL'S HOLE
The Devil's Hole is a sea cave, on the cornice of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez
The Devil's Hole is a sea cave, on the ledge of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez. There are several legends about the Devil's Hole. One of the legends, the most famous, that of Pont d'Yeu, is that the devil gave a heel blow at this place of the cliff, disappointed to have lost his deal with Saint Martin. Another version says that the devil is held in this cave, watched over by five monks. This cavity is also called the Devil's pot because the water boils there as in a cauldron, a schist arch representing the handle.
