A privileged place of passage for certain species of birds: grey herons, kingfishers, mallards
A must-see destination in the Pays des Achards, the Lac du Jaunay stretches between Saint-Julien-des-Landes and La Chapelle-Hermier, offering a different face depending on where you reach the shores. The lake of Jaunay is a preserved and protected natural space of 114 hectares. It is very famous for fishing and offers other sports activities such as hiking, mountain biking, geocaching, but also water activities, such as canoeing, pedal boating with the family, or simple walks for relaxation. The observatory footbridge located at the Moulin des Rochelles, in La Chapelle Hermier is a strategic place to observe the wildlife. The lake of Jaunay is a privileged place of passage for certain species of birds: grey herons, kingfishers, mallards, tawny owls, but also reptiles, tree frogs and with luck you will see otters... A map of the lake of Jaunay is available at the Tourist Office of the Pays des Achards to know the activities and the departures of hikes and paths around the lake. Take your picnic and have lunch on one of the picnic areas around the lake. Each shore of Lac du Jaunay offers different attractions. Go from one to the other by taking the road bridge between La Baudrière and Châteaulong. At Chapelle-Hermier, there is even a restaurant, the Auberge du Jaunay, which offers brasserie-style cuisine and from whose terrace you will have a magnificent view of the lake.
