SAINT-MESMIN CASTLE
14th century castle, defensive fortress with castle tower, drawbridge, knocker and water moat, animations proposed in season
This magnificent 14th century castle is classified as a historical monument. A defensive fortress with a castle, drawbridge, assomoir and water moat in the 14th and 15th centuries, it became more residential from the 16th to the 18th century, during which time certain changes were made (creation of the lower courtyard). During the French Revolution, the castle was taken over by the royalist Vendeans, besieged and sold as a national asset. The Great War will use it later as a military hospital. During the season, many animations follow one another, reviving the culture of the Middle Ages thanks to actors, craftsmen and other passionate medievalists. Everything is there to immerse you in a rich culture, far from the dark image that often sticks to this pivotal period in our history. All year long, the castle will make dream the " Princesses and knights in the making " . In the Intrepid Club, the whole family goes in search of lost coats of arms: a series of challenges await you in the rooms of the fortress. Once found, they will form a code to open the treasure chest of the lord of the castle. And if you book 2 to 3 months in advance, your children can celebrate their birthday with their friends. All the children will put on a costume and go to the castle! They will make a medieval object during a manual workshop, and try to find the treasure, before eating the birthday snack and ending the afternoon in the castle by striking a coin.
