Crypt with magnificent vaults and columns dating from 1182, a historic monument to discover in Essarts-en-Bocage.
Built in 1182 at the same time as the Romanesque church of the priory of St. Peter, the crypt still has magnificent vaults and columns from that period. Rectangular in shape, 11 m long and 4 m wide, it is divided into three naves by two rows of five columns, and ends in a hemicycle. Classified as a historical monument in 1971, discover its architecture with a detailed audio commentary. You may see traces of painting on the walls, including an angel swinging a censer. Access to the crypt: staircase on the right in the church near the sacristy.
